Cost and pricing

How we price custom software

Devrisen prices every engagement before work starts: one fixed quote for a build, and a fixed monthly fee for a dedicated team or a support retainer. The number comes out of scoping and is itemized by part. There is no price list on this site, because what a build costs follows what it has to do.

Why there is no price list here

A price range has to be wide enough to hold every project it might describe, and a range that wide says nothing about yours. Two builds with the same name can differ in everything that sets the price, from what the software connects to through to how much existing data it has to take in. So we publish no band, no hourly rate and no delivery range, on this page or any other.

What you get in its place is a number you can act on. Before any paid build work starts you hold a fixed quote, broken down by part, so you can see what each piece of the system costs. If the total is more than you want to spend, the breakdown shows what to cut or move to a later phase, and you make that choice before you commit to anything.

How a quote is built

A quote takes four steps, and the first two cost nothing whatever the project is.

  1. Reply

We reply within one business day with the next step and any questions we need answered first.

  2. First call

The first call is free. It is where we learn what the software has to do and what it has to fit around.

  3. Scoping

Scoping a new build is free. When the software must work with legacy code, or with several systems you already run, a short paid assessment comes after the call and maps them. Code written by another team always gets a paid audit, and its findings are yours to use with any team.

  4. The quote

A fixed price, itemized by part and built from the written scope. You can cut a part, or move it to a later phase, before you agree to anything.

Get your project scoped

Three ways to buy, each priced before work starts

Which of the three fits depends on how well the work can be described in advance.

  • Fixed-scope build — one price for an agreed spec and date. It suits work whose scope can be written down, which is why scoping comes first.
  • Dedicated team — a fixed monthly fee, agreed before the team starts, for senior engineers who work inside your team. It suits an ongoing roadmap whose next items are not yet fixed.
  • Support retainer — a fixed monthly fee for an agreed scope of maintenance, quoted once we have reviewed the system. It is never an hours block or a charge per ticket.

A build can hand over to a retainer once it is live, and for software we built the retainer needs no separate review first.

What moves the number

Across every kind of software we build, the same few things decide how much work there is.

  • Existing systems — how many the software has to connect to, and how usable their APIs are.
  • Kinds of user — each role that signs in adds screens of its own.
  • Existing data — how much has to be moved in, and how clean it is.
  • Regulated data — health or financial records bring access rules and audit trails with them.
  • A native app — a build for the app stores is a second codebase.
  • What must be real on day one — the more of the system that has to work at launch, the more there is to build first.

Scoping measures each of these for your project, and the itemized quote shows what each one costs.

The cost drivers for your kind of build

Each service page has its own cost section, written for that kind of work. Start with the one closest to yours.

Why teams pick Devrisen

The team, stack, and terms behind every quote

Tech stack

Every one of these is a technology we build production systems in. They are the stacks we specialize in, and we also take on work in other mainstream ones when a project needs it.

  • React
  • Next.js
  • Astro
  • Angular
  • TypeScript
  • Node.js
  • NestJS
  • PHP
  • Laravel
  • WordPress
  • Shopify
  • Java
  • .NET

  • AWS
  • Flutter
  • React Native

Engagement models

  • Fixed-scope build — agreed spec, price, and date. Best when the scope can be written down.
  • Dedicated software development team — senior engineers embedded with your team.
  • Support retainer — maintenance, monitoring, and small features after launch.

Every engagement is priced before work starts: a fixed quote for a build, a fixed monthly fee for a team or a retainer.

Track record

Engineers on our team have built in regulated and high-stakes environments: healthcare under HIPAA, government systems, AI platforms. Our founder has spent a decade leading engineering delivery across those domains.

  • Healthcare (HIPAA)
  • AI software
  • Education
  • Non-profit
  • Government

How we build

The engineering practice behind every project. None of it is visible in a demo, and all of it is what keeps a system safe to change a year later.

  • Code review
  • Dependency scanning
  • Secrets management
  • Access control
  • Audit logging

Questions about price

How much does custom software development cost?

There is no single figure, because the cost follows what the software has to do: the systems it connects to, the kinds of user it serves, the data it takes in and how much must work on day one. Every engagement is priced before work starts, and the quote is itemized by part, so you see what each piece costs.

Do you charge by the hour?

Not for a build, a team or a retainer. A build is sold at one fixed price, agreed after scoping. A dedicated team and a support retainer are each a fixed monthly fee, agreed before the work starts, and a retainer is never an hours block. Whichever you choose, you know the price before we begin.

Is scoping free?

The first call always is. Scoping a new build is free and ends in the fixed quote. When the work has to fit legacy code or several systems you already run, a short paid assessment comes first, and code another team wrote always starts with a paid audit. Both end in a fixed, itemized price.

Can you give a rough estimate before scoping?

A figure you can plan around comes out of scoping, because the same one-line request can describe very different amounts of work. What you get first, within one business day, is the next step and the questions we need answered. Scoping a new build is free.
